lán nang-uè

“our people’s language”

Lánnang-uè is primarily spoken as an oral language within the overseas Chinese community in the Philippines. The language is a unique variety of Hokkien spoken by ethnic Chinese in the Philippines formed from mixing of Fujian dialects, English, and local Philippine languages.

ABOUT ME!

Hey there! I'm Sandrene, a Filipino-Chinese (Chinoy) studying in an international school in the Philippines. As a fourth-generation Chinoy, Lánnang-uè is commonly spoken in my household by my parents and grandparents. However, I unfortunately cannot fluently speak or understand the language. The Lánnang-uè dialect seems to be spoken less and less as generations go by because younger generations like myself are being increasingly exposed to the universal lingua franca English through education, media, and community etc. Thus, I decided to embark on this personal initiative with the intention of giving back to my Chinoy community and preserving our language for younger generations while also enriching my own language-learning experience.

OUR MISSION

Lannang Lingua is dedicated to the preservation, promotion, and revitalization of Lánnang. Our mission is to create a thriving community of speakers, learners, and enthusiasts, providing access to a comprehensive digital repository of linguistic and cultural resources.

OUR VISION

We strive to ensure that the Lánnang dialect endures through time, connecting generations and fostering cultural pride and unity.
